Frequently asked questions
Who can benefit from yoga?
Anyone! The benefits of yoga are universal. All postures can be adapted to the individual to maximize the benefit to your body. As a holistic practice, it marries your mind and body and helps improve strength, flexibility, balance and overall harmony.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
Many students bring their own mat but it is not required. We have mats at the Center which you can borrow.
Do I have to be flexible to practice yoga?
Everyone's body is different. Some people are quite flexible, some not. As one who is "not", I can attest that flexibility is not a requirement. Poses can be adapted to each individual's ability. You will, however, become more flexible as your practice evolves. That is one of the core benefits of yoga
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to easily move and stretch in all directions. Yoga is usually done with bare feet to prevent slipping, but for those whose feet are always cold, yoga socks are available at most yoga apparel stores.
Do I need to sign up for class in advance?
Other than Prenatal or our Special Sessions, there is no need to sign up for a class in advance - just come. Please plan on arriving at least 5 minutes prior to the beginning of class. If it is your first time, come a few minutes earlier in order to complete a waiver form.
What should I expect from my first yoga class?
Let the instructor know that this is your first class. You will learn basic yoga poses and breathing techniques. Always listen to your body - you alone know what is best for you. Any pose can be modified to fit your capabilities. Most importantly, your yoga practice will continue to evolve and will become an integral part of your life.
